What’s in a Name Tag?

1. Experiment with grids by drawing three examples. Consider the different ways of organizing information
on the page in each of your sketches, and think about the process of filling out forms, both by hand and digitally.

2. Create three concepts for a speed dating event name tag that is effective in revealing the personalities of
the users.

3. Choose one of your concepts and develop a full layout, considering format and hierarchy. How will the card be worn?

4. Print ten copies and find ten test users to fill out the cards. Analyze the effectiveness of your layout and finalize the design based on user feedback.

Flex It

1. First research existing identities. Begin with businesses or institutions that seem appropriate for a flexible mark. For instance, a museum is a natural fit since the exhibitions within it constantly change. Or a service-oriented business like a salon, since hairstyles vary greatly depending on current trends. Look for a mark that calls out to be redesigned.

2. Once you select a mark for redesign, experiment with both template and modular approaches (see full project brief). Develop a design solution that uses strictly a template approach, one that uses strictly a modular approach and a third that combines the two. Clearly show how each approach could change in multiple iterations.

3. Pick one approach and take it to final. Apply the final mark to a series of business cards and a promotional piece appropriate to the business. Then animate the mark and apply it to a website design.
